2013 NFL DRAFT – DECLARED UNDERCLASSMEN/NOTABLE RETURNEES

A record 73 underclassmen have entered the 2013 NFL Draft according to the NFL’s official list of players granted “special eligibility” for the draft. It should be noted that a number of notable underclassmen that have declared for the draft were not included on the NFL’s list, but are listed on every major website’s underclassmen draft tracker, including NFL.com, ESPN.com, NFLDraftScout.com and SI.com, while others that don’t appear on some of these websites are listed on the NFL’s official release. Players like Tyler Eifert, D.J. Fluker, Justin Pugh, Da’Rick Rogers, Josh Boyce, Brandon Kaufmann, Trabis Ward and Kyle Padron appear on every major website’s underclassmen tracker, but do not appear on the NFL’s official list. Fluker and Pugh were granted permission to play in the Senior Bowl because they have already earned their university degrees as fourth-year juniors and that may be why they are not listed. Underclassmen appearing on the NFL’s official list, but not displayed on most trackers include Dwayne Beckford, Duron Carter, Bradley Randle, Jose Jose and Jajuan Harley. If all of those prospects count as underclassmen than there would be 81 in total. The 73 prospects officially listed by the NFL tops last year’s record of 65 early entrants, which smashed 2011’s record of 56 underclassmen. The number has actually risen from 43 to 73 over the last ten years. The SEC leads the way with an outstanding 33 underclassmen prospects proving again to be the best conference in college football. Of those 33 SEC prospects, an incredible eleven players come from LSU blowing away every other school’s total. In fact Florida, Tennessee and Florida State have the next most with just four underclassmen each. A large number of the underclassmen listed will be selected among the first three rounds of the draft including Luke Joeckel, Bjoern Werner, Damontre Moore, Dee Milliner and Jarvis Jones, who could all be selected among the first five picks. The 2013 NFL Draft goes down April 25-27.
